ASSALAMUALAIKUM

Hows your day BTW ? are you ready to learn English?
ah sure me too. can't wait to start this . xoxoxo

---Prologue---

Well , my name is Ratu Dita and you can call me "Dita". As you know, English is still to be a foreign language in our country, why? because we always consider that English is not easy to be understood and English is not our first language also not our official language, that's why we need to study hard about this. The simple things that you should to know is the way to make a good sentence in English, so you could be confident when you want to speak up or write down some words in English.

So, i'd like to give you some explanation, just a little information that I've got in my college.
Enjoy xoxoxo
Now, we are going to discuss how to make a good sentence in English. Based on the book which I used , "Let's Write English" by George E. Wishon and Julia M. Burks.

The simple sentence pattern must contain with :
 Noun + Verb

ILLUSTRATION

Clouds gathered. The sun dimmed. The sky darkened. The wind blew. Dogs ran and growled. Birds cried. Lightning flashed. Thunder sounded. The earth shook and trembled. Trees fell. A hurricane had begun.

The paragraph above is composed of sentences using the simplest sentence pattern in English, noun+verb. Observe the elements of this sentence pattern in the following examples.

Sentences Pattern : Noun + Verb
                               Clouds gathered
                               The sun dimmed
                               The sky darkened
                               The wind blew
                               Dogs run and growled
                               Birds cried
                               Lightning flashed
                               Thunder sounded
                               The earth shook and trembled
                               Trees fell
                               A hurricane had begun
The point is, if we want to make a sentence, we have to understand which one is Noun as a subject and which one is Verb. They must be followed by pattern (Noun + Verb).

1. NOUN

What is a Noun? Hmm probably you should to know more about Noun, then you can find the words that you need to complete your sentence. I just want to make you simple for understanding this , so let me give you some examples.

- Noun as a Subject
Huda is my friend. He comes from Jakarta. He lives in Cibubur. Now He works at Bogor.

- Noun as an Object
My daughter has a cat. She loves her cat. She gives some foods everyday. Sometimes, the cat sits on the chairs and sleeps on her bed.

Now you can understand what is a Noun, right? Noun is kind of name person, place and thing. Noun can be Subject or Object . The first example, describes the Noun as a Subject. The second examples describes, the Noun as an Object.

So, you are ready for exercise , aren't you ? hehe

EXERCISE 1

2. VERB

After we discuss about Noun, We also have to know about "VERB" . I believe mostly you've heard about Verb. We have found this since we was in junior high school. Yes , Verb is kind of action words who shows an action that have done by subject.

So, look at the examples !
1. He works at the bank
2. Doni writes a letter
3. Alexander and Stefanus eat in the restaurant
4. We hear the thunder during the storm
5. Tommy goes to his friend's house

Based on those examples, we can see some words which has marked, there are verbs of those sentences. They show some actions from the Subject. Like work, write, eat, hear and go. It called Auxiliary Verb.

But beside Auxiliary Verb, There are one more Auxiliary in English. It is Auxiliary Tobe. What is that? Let me give you some examples :")

1. He is a student
2. I am a singer
3. My father is handsome
4. My sister is a teacher
5. The weather is so cold

I --      Am
You --      Are
We --      Are
They --      Are
He --      Is
She --      Is
It --      Is

Have you got what the meaning of the Auxiliary Tobe?
Yes, They use "be" to complete the sentence with verb. This is different between Auxiliary verb, it must followed by Object or complement without action words anymore. Remember the pattern must be Subject (Noun) + Verb , That's why we need Auxiliary Tobe for helping the sentence to be perfect based on the pattern.

Should be ready with 2'nd exercises :") , Check this out !!

EXERCISE 2

Well, now you almost perfect to go to write some sentences in English. Remember that i explained , simple sentence must contain with Subject and Verb ( Noun + Verb ). Beside Noun and Verb we also use Complement or Object for making a sentence in English. You'd better to find another reference such as a grammar book like "Understanding and Using English Grammar" by Betty Schrampfer Azar or "English Grammar in Use" by Raymond Murphy. Both of books are very recommended. In my college I used both to make our lessons to be perfect. Then you must have good dictionary for helping you to find difficult words that you don't know. I used Oxford Dictionary, Longman Dictionary and "Kamus Inggris-Indonesia" by John M. Echols. Those good enough for you to help your study. To be frank I also still study English , and if you feel all is too late for study you absolutely wrong, because we study for the rest of our life.

MUST HAVE THIS !!!!!
I suggest you to use these books.
Understanding & Using English Grammar - Betty S. Azar

English Grammar in Use - Raymond Murphy

And I prefer you to choose these dictionaries.

Dictionary of Contemporary English
Oxford Dictionary of English

Kamus Inggris Indonesia - John M. Echols & Hasan Sadili
Also check this video which has similiarities with our lessons now.

Hope you'll be enjoyed by our lessons and getting better in English. Do not forget that the most important when you learn English is don't be afraid to be wrong because you are still learning and that is a process of learning.
And the last, sorry for the mistake in communicating materials and process of writing. Really pleasure if you have some suggest for this blog.

See you on the next post .
